Language industry, language professional, language profession, language work. Four simple terms. Everyone understands what they mean, but how do you say ‘language professional’ in French? Or ‘language industry’ in Dutch?
Liesbet Van Oudenhove set out to figure this out during her internship at De Taalsector. She collected language industry-related terminology and looked for somewhere to share the terms and discuss them with the ‘community of interest’. The Language Sector is alive and changing: in fact, suffice it to say that terminology is positively swinging! This is the report of her adventure.

The Dutch College for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products (CBG) is the 'gatekeeper' of the Dutch medicine market. The CBG published a list of over 400 patient-friendly translations of medical terms. The list contains terminology which is used in package leaflets. Now, the CBG asks anyone who is interested - patients, consumers, doctors, pharmacists and professionals from health care, pharma- and medical industry - to send their comments on those terms. The aim is to further improve the readability of leaflets.

The Center for jargon and Communication (CVC) of the Free University Brussels and Termisti (Center de recherche and linguistique appliquée of the Brussels Institut superieur the traducteurs et des interprètes des, ISTI) organise on april 25, 2014 in Brussels already for the seventh time together a colloquium on terminology.
This seventh edition is about the risks of incorrect understanding in a medical context. The mobility within Europe is increasing. Also at work. Employees and contractors nowadays originate from all corners of Europe (and beyond). That results in a language barrier at work between employees, and between employees and subcontractors. The language barrier is not without safety risks. Although employers and principal contractors are legally required to check that the instructions that they give to the workers also effectively be understood, it is generally acknowledged that the risks as a result of the taalkloof over the years has been increased. There are always more foreigners and they remain there for a few weeks or months. Not long enough so that the local language learning, with all safety risks that this entails.

In Rotterdam is the new General Literary Lexicon presented. The General Literary Lexicon describes more than 4,000 terms in connection with the literature. The lexicon includes more than 3,000 entries and shall, when the printed would be, more than 2600 pages. It is digitally accessible in the Digital Library for Dutch Literature (DBNL) and it's available free. The wording is the lexicon 'a up-to-date terminology standard treatise in the Dutch for the next generation of literatuurliefhebbers'.

The German-speaking Gemeenschapsregering organises saturday, June 9 in Eupen a seminar on German-speaking terminology for Belgian law: 'Drei Sprachen - ein Right. Terminology as Factor der Rechtssicherheit in Belgien'.
The laws and the law are increasingly complex and the legal terminology absorbs more and more jargon from other domains. To each other means we must continue to speak in unambiguous terms. Unique terminology, however, do not by themselves; collecting, recording, check, organize, and disseminate good terms is a matter of good management. It is in the German-speaking Community of Belgium well aware. The Belgisch-Duitse terminology and by extension the German legal terminology for the Belgian context is not out of the air. To the importance of a good terminology for the legal certainty of the German-speaking Belgians to underline, organizes the German-speaking Community a seminar.

The Brussels terminologieonderzoekscentra Termisti and CVC organize on friday, april 20 in Brussels for the fifth time a joint seminar. Fien Creve studied last year to the department for Applied language of the Artesis Hogeschool Antwerp with a bachelorscriptie on terminologielijsten for translators. Is the ideal glossary terms? And if so, how does it look like?
To obtain a picture of the ideal glossary - here referred to as a synonym of termfiche, termenfiche, terminology sheet or termbestand - followed Fien Creve two traces. They speurde in the scientific literature on terminology to recommendations of academics. And they questioned the professional translator, who works in the daily vertaalpraktijk with terminology.

The Netherlands has a bijsluiterwoordenboek sectororganisatie Neprofarm online where patients the interpretation of difficult medical terms to locate. The dictionary contains 600 terms at the moment.

The Fulcrum has 'the impression that the terminologieonderwijs to the Dutch and Flemish vertaalhogescholen in recent years more attention has been given and that the level is high', but it is of the view that a th for translators in a real need.

The Pinkhof Medical spell check is a plug-in for Microsoft Office and contains approximately 170,000 medical technical terms.
